Certificate, ceremony and booking fees

Please note that all statutory fees are non-refundable and that fees are subject to review in April every year.

Fees from April 2017 :

Certificates

Full birth, death and marriage certificates issued by a superintendent registrar from a completed register 10.00
Short birth certificates issued by a superintendent registrar from a completed register 10.00
Birth, death and marriage certificates issued by a registrar at the time of registration (One free short birth certificate is issued at the time of registration) 4.00
All birth, death and marriage certificates issued by a registrar after the time of registration 7.00
Certificates from recent registrations are likely to be issued by a registrar. For information about whether a certificate will be issued by a registrar or a superintendent registrar, please contact the Register Office

Civil partnership certificate - certified copy or certified extract, issued at the time of registration 4.00
Civil partnership certificate - certified copy or certified extract, issued after the time of registration 10.00
Priority service - certificates issued by the superintendent registrar on the same day as ordered if requested by 2.45 pm - please add £10.00  
Fee for sending by first class post 1.00
Fee for sending by second class post 0.50
General search fee - to search births, deaths and marriage indexes personally at the Register Office 18.00

Wedding fees

 

Legal preliminaries

 
To enter a notice of marriage in a marriage notice book (per person). This is payable for all non-Church of England weddings, whether religious or civil. 35.00
Superintendent registrar to attend outside his / her office to be given notice of marriage of a housebound person. (This is in addition to the fee to give notice)

Superintendent registrar to attend outside his / her office to be given notice of marriage of a detained person. (This is in addition to the fee to give notice)

Ceremony fees

 
In addition to all of the following ceremony fees, there is a fee payable for a certificate. See above  

Library Room ceremonies and ceremonies at any other annex of the Register Office (including ceremonies at the Guildhall on Saturdays only)

Register Office ceremonies (statutory room)

 
The Register Office is suitable for small wedding parties and can accommodate the bride and groom and up to four guests.  
Booking fee (non-refundable, this converts to the fee for the ceremony and one certificate) 50.00
The Register Office ceremony (included in the booking fee) 46.00

Approved premises ceremonies - venues which have been licensed for civil ceremonies

These fees include a non-refundable cancellation fee of £55.00  
A further charge is likely to be made by the owners of the building for the use of the premises.  

Marriage in the Church of England or Church in Wales

 
Information about fees payable may be obtained from the vicar of the church in which you wish to marry.  
Marriage in a religious building other than in the Church of England or Church in Wales  
If a religious building has an authorised person to register weddings, a registrar will not need to be present. Otherwise there is a fee for a registrar to attend. The trustees of the building may also charge additional fees.

Weddings for housebound and detained persons

Civil partnership fees

 

Legal preliminaries

 
To give notice of intention to register a civil partnership (per person) 35.00
Attendance of an authorised person at a place other than the one provided by the registration authority to attest a notice of intention to register a civil partnership for a housebound person. (This is in addition to the fee above to give notice) 47.00
Attendance of an authorised person at a place other than the one provided by the registration authority to attest a notice of intention to register a civil partnership for a detained person. (This is in addition to the fee above to give notice) 68.00

Civil partnership registration and ceremony fees

 
To register a civil partnership in the Register Office room, the Library Room or other annex of the Register Office, or at an approved premises, the fees are the same as those listed above for weddings.  
Civil partnerships for housebound and detained persons  
Attendance of the civil partnership registrar to sign the civil partnership schedule for a housebound person 81.00
Attendance of the civil partnership registrar to sign the civil partnership schedule for a detained person 88.00

Conversion of civil partnership to marriage

Citizenship ceremonies

 
The fees for standard ceremonies are included in the payments made to the Home Office.  
 For a private ceremony an additional fee is payable to Medway Council 200.00
