Cooling System Notification
All properties where cooling towers and evaporative condensers
are located must register with the council under the Notification
of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers Regulations
1992. The purpose of this is to identify areas that could
give rise to spread of infectious diseases (e.g. Legionnaires'
disease) and to make sure that preventative measures are taken to
get rid of the risk of infection.
For more information, visit HSE.GOV.UK.
You will need to provide us with details
- where the notifiable plant is located
- the person in control of the premises
- the number of devices at the premises
- their approximate location.
You must also notify us of any changes to cooling
towers or evaporative condensers on your property within one
month of the change. If the device ceases to be notifiable, you
must tell us as soon as possible. If you would like feedback
on a failed application to have cooling towers or evaporative
condensers on your property, write to Food and Safety Team, Medway
Council, Gun Wharf, Dock Road, Chatham, Kent, ME4 4TR.
Will tacit consent apply?
Yes. This means that you will be able to act as though your
application is granted if you have not heard from the council by
the end of the 10-day target completion period.
