Chatham placemaking project

Medway Council has been awarded £4 million of government funding to help regenerate Chatham and make it a better place for residents, workers and visitors.

The funding will mark the start of an exciting new project, which will create an easier journey for pedestrians and cyclists from Chatham railway station to the waterfront bus station and town centre.

Improvements will also be made at New Cut Junction, St John's Square, Military Square and Military Road.

We ran a consultation from 15 January to 5pm on 5 February to get your comments on the design plans, before work starts from 2016 to 2018.

This page will be updated with the final plans this Summer.

Some videos have also been created to show Chatham as it is now and give information on the areas where improvements will be made:

  • Time Lapse
This is a time lapse video of Chatham from day to night
  • These are our streets
This video visits some of the best known areas of Chatham, asking you to think about what the town means to you and to help make it better.
  • Station to Station
This video takes you on the current journey from Chatham train station to the Waterfront to show that the journey could be improved.
