Carers' Emergency Card

The Carers' Emergency Card provides carers with peace of mind when they are away from the person they care for. One of the main concerns carers tell us they have when leaving the person they look after is what would happen if they were taken ill or involved in an accident.

The Carers' Emergency Card enables immediate access to pre-arranged planned care, giving the carer the peace of mind they need.

How the card works

Carers will be issued with a credit card-sized card that has a unique reference number and emergency phone number on it. The carer carries the card at all times so in the case of of an accident or sudden illness it can be used to identify they care for someone. The card does not contain any personal details.

In an emergency situation a person phones the number on the card and quotes the registration number. The call is received by Kent County Council's 24-hour contact centre. Staff can immediately access the carer's pre-arranged emergency plan and put it into action.

The service is free and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
