Care leaving service
We are ambitious for all our looked after young people and care
leavers and we believe they deserve the very best that we, and our
partners, can provide for them.
Leaving Care service works with young people from ages 18-21 (or
24 if the young person is in further education). To access this
support a young person must have been looked after for 13 weeks or
more after their 14th birthday.
We want to help young people make a smooth transition into young
adulthood and independent living and so we provide a range of
support depending on a young person's assessed individual needs.
This support can be about:
- finding the right type of education
- securing employment or training
- managing relationships
- living successfully on their own
and other suitable needs.
We also keep in contact with young people on a regular basis and
help them secure the right type of accommodation according to their
needs. We have signed up to the National Care Leavers Charter and
over we are developing our own in-house standards making sure
that they reflect our ambition for our care leavers.
Medway Council also supports the education
of young people in care.
