Changes to bus services from May 28

From May 28 there will be some changes to some Arriva services. All other Arriva services are unaffected. This changes have been made due to reductions in Medway Council support due to budget restrictions and low patronage.

121 Saturday Service- Rainham- Darland- Gillingham- Chatham

All 121 journeys on Saturday from 0900 to 1800 to be withdrawn.

Alternative bus services in Rainham on Saturdays are the 132, and 326/327. In Darland the M1 service operates on a Saturday morning, plus the 116/132 which run along the A2, and in Gillingham there are the 182/101 services. The 116/176/177/326/327 also run to Medway Maritime Hospital.

132/140 late evening services from Earl Estate to Hempstead Valley

On the evening 132 service the 2310 from Chatham will be withdrawn, the  2318 from Hempstead Valley will be withdrawn. On the evening 140 service the 2257 from Chatham will be withdrawn; the 2348 from Earl Estate will be withdrawn. Therefore the last bus will be at 2237 to Hempstead Valley from Chatham, 2218 from Hempstead Valley to Chatham; 2327 to Earl Estate, 2218 from Earl Estate. The last 700 service from Bluewater goes via Earl Estate at 2248.

145/135 late evening services

The 145 at 2210 from Chatham and 135 at 2300 are to be withdrawn. Last evening bus from Chatham to Warren Wood will be at 2130.

164 service - journey from Chatham at 1810

The 1750 164  journey from Chatham will be withdrawn. The last bus leaving Chatham for the White Road Estate and Chatham Grove will remain at 1810.


Due to a road closure in Canal Road Strood on Saturday 3 June 170 bus service will be diverted by the A2 into Chatham. A shuttle bus service will operate between Chatham Waterfront Bus Station, and Medway City Estate Neptune roundabout from 0725 until 1825 every 30 minutes.

142/145 Due to a building collapse in Delce Road, Rochester which has lead to a complete closure of the road, buses 142, and 145 are currently being diverted.

Nu-Venture service 142 is being diverted via City Way, to St Williams Way, then to normal route at Fairlead Road. A temporary bus stop will be set up at the junction of Fairlead Road and St Williams Way.

Arriva service 145  is being diverted via City Way, Onslow Road to Delce Road then back on normal route.

These diversions are to take place until further notice.


From Monday 27 March there will be changes to the 185 service. There will be amendments to times of the service running between Chatham Waterfront and Pattens Lane and Davis Estate.

Also from March 27 the 185 will no longer be running between Chatham Waterfront Bus Station and Asda at Gillingham Pier due to lack of usage.

During Monday to Friday daytimes the 185 service is operated commercially by Nu-Venture. It is supported by Medway Council in the early morning and evenings, and all day Saturday.

From Friday 26 May there are some timetable changes on the 326/327 timetable which serves Sittingbourne, Lower Halstow, Upchurch, Lower Rainham, Rainham, Medway Hospital, Gillingham, and Chatham.

As part of the government sponsored Thameslink Programme, Network Rail is rebuilding London Bridge mainline rail station to provide more space, improved connections to more destinations and more reliable services. The rail and tube station will remain open during the work.

Until 2018, there will be long and short term changes to train services as major track work takes place around London Bridge station. There will be enginnering work throughout this period that may affect your journey into and out of London, as well as around Kent, so check the Southeastern website.

Bank holidays

Chatham Waterfront Bus Station is open whenever buses are running, but some routes will have a more limited service on bank holidays (GOV.UK). Contact the bus operator in the first instance.

Connected Kent and Medway Smartcard

The Kent and Medway Connected Smartcard is a new way to pay for travel on certain buses instead of cash. It can be used on only:

  • ASD Coaches
  • Autocar
  • Chalkwell
  • County Connect
  • Farleigh Coaches
  • Go Coach
  • Nu-Venture

Please note the smartcard is not accepted on Arriva buses.

PlusBus is a discount price bus pass that you can buy with your train ticket at any National Rail station ticket office, or online. It can also be bought from self service machines at selected stations.

Within Medway PlusBus  gives you unlimited bus travel on Arriva and Nu-Venture around the whole area. There are no peak period restrictions, so you can hop-on and hop-off buses as much as you like all day.
