Medway Council's Valuation and Asset Management
Section provides a whole range of professional property services
for the council, ensuring that a strategic and corporate approach
is taken to property asset management, in accordance with the
authority's priorities and ways
A team of chartered surveyors manages the council's corporate
property portfolio and their key activities are set out below.
Negotiating acquisitions, disposals, land compensation claims
and the variation or release of covenants
From time to time the council has land and property assets for
sale or rent including:
- industrial premises
- office premises
- retail premises.

Asset Management and the production of the Asset Management
Plan and Property Strategy
involves both the day-to-day management of the council's land and
property assets and the consideration of the council's longer-term

Providing valuation advice to the council
Valuations are undertaken for insurance, accountancy and sale or
acquisition evaluation purposes. The Valuation Office compiles and
maintains the valuation list for business
rating in England and Wales.
Maintaining land and property records
All land and property in which Medway Council has a legal
interest is recorded and maintained using our asset management
database and combination of G.I.S. software and Ordnance Survey
The Local Government Transparency Code 2014 requires local
authorities to publish details of land and building assets.

Medway is the single biggest section of the Thames Gateway and
one of the busiest. Massive riverside and town centre regeneration
projects are gathering pace at:

- Chatham town centre and waterfront
- Strood riverside and waterfront.
Valuation and Asset Management is involved throughout these
- providing initial advice
- using compulsory purchase orders to acquire sites
- managing sites pending the implementation of development.
