Statement of accounts and audit

The council is required to prepare a statement of accounts for each financial year, which is audited by an external body, currently BDO.

Audit of accounts 2016

The accounts of Medway Council are subject to an external audit.

This audit will be carried out by David Eagles (Partner, BDO LLP, 16 Havens, Ransomes Europark, Ipswich, Suffolk IP3 9SJ. Telephone 01473 320728).

Inspect the accounts

As part of this audit, any person is able to inspect the accounts of the year ended 31 March 2016 and related documents (books, deeds, contracts, bills, vouchers and receipts). These may inspected from Friday 1 July 2016 until Friday 12 August 2016, from 10am to 4pm at Gun Wharf.

If you would like to inspect the accounts, please phone 01634 332787 to arrange an appointment. You may ask for copies of the accounts, although multiple copies will be charged for.

If you're a government elector

As part of this audit local government electors for Medway are able to:

  • ask the auditor questions about the accounts from 10am on Friday 1 July until 4pm on Friday 12 August 2016. Please contact the auditor at the address given above to make arrangements to ask questions
  • object to Medway Council's accounts from 10am on Friday 1 July until 4pm on Friday 12 August 2016. You may ask that the auditor issue a report in the public interest or apply for a declaration that an item in the accounts is contrary to law. Written notice of a proposed objection must be sent to the auditor at the address given above and to our Chief Finance Officer, Phil Watts, at Medway Council, Gun Wharf, Dock Road, Chatham, ME4 4TR.
