Rochester West ward by-election

A vacancy has arisen in Rochester West ward due to the resignation of Councillor Kelly Tolhurst. We previously published the notice of vacancy and two electors requested that the vacancy be filled by having an election. 

The Notice of Election was published on 1 February. Only local government electors in the area are eligible to vote in the election.

The period for submission of nominations has now closed. Here is a list of the candidates standing in the by-election on Thursday 8 March 2018 and their election agents.

Here are some of the key statutory deadlines for the by-election:

Nomination papers may start to be delivered between 9am and 6pm from Thursday 1 February
Nomination papers must be delivered no later than 4pm on Friday 9 February
The list of candidates validly standing in the by-election will be published no later than 4pm on Monday 12 February
Last date for receipt of applications to register in time to vote in the by-election Tuesday 20 February
Last date for receipt of new applications to register to vote by post (or to amend an existing postal vote) in time for the by-election 5pm on Wednesday 21 February
Last date for receipt of applications to appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf in time for the by-election 5pm on Wednesday 28 February

As there is more than one valid candidate, an election will take place on Thursday 8 May 2018.

Poll cards will start to be delivered to all those registered to vote from Friday 9 February but you do not need a poll card to vote. Please note that postal vote packs will start to be delivered to registered postal voters from Friday 23 February. If you think you may not be around to be able to return your completed postal vote pack before 10pm on 8 March, you may want to appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf.
