Description

Anorexia and Bulimia Care provides a national eating disorder helpline along with email support, both for those seeking help for themselves and for family and friends concerned about or trying to help someone they love.

ABC's helplines are run by fully trained members of staff, who have both professional and personal experience of eating disorders.

When to call

ABC's helplines are open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

When calling the helpline, choose option 1 for the supportline if you are seeking help for yourself.

Select option 2 if you are a friend or family member of someone with an eating disorder.

You can also contact the helpline by email support@anorexiabulimiacare.org.uk.

What to expect from a call

When you call the support line you can expect:

  • a safe space to talk to people with professional and personal understanding of eating disorders
  • to be able to speak openly about your concerns, knowing that the information is kept private
  • reassurance and emotional support as well as practical guidance and strategies
  • an understanding of the services we offer and the help we can provide
  • a chance to call again or arrange a booked appointment
  • a chance to become a member of the ABC community and get support throughout the year

We understand that people struggling with eating disorders can be financially limited and therefore support fees can be given via a monthly donation of £3.

The Anorexia and Bulimia Care family and friends helpline can help you discuss issues of weight, emotions, trigger factors, as well as offer practical suggestions about managing emotions and mealtimes.

We can also help with seeking and getting professional medical and psychological help and recovery of an eating disorder.

Call our family and friends helpline or email us at familyandfriends@anorexiabulimiacare.org.uk.
