Description

Each Multiple Sclerosis Society branch has a support service, run by a team of support volunteers.

Local MS Support teams aim to empower people affected by MS by giving information about MS, providing emotional support, and signposting to local services.

This is a vital front line service for people with MS, carers and families, who may want someone to talk to, or would like to know what's available in their local area.

Support volunteers can help with:

  • emotional support
  • information about MS and local services
  • signposting to specialist advice and information
  • accessing financial support, for example grants
  • developing relationships with local health and social care professionals
  • home, hospital and care home visits
  • finding out about social groups and activities

Support volunteers can provide information to help people affected by MS make choices.

They do not provide advice or recommend courses of action, but in certain circumstances will signpost to other organisations that can.
