This service provides neurological physiotherapy in an outpatient clinic for patients with a new neurological event as well as chronic or progressive neurological conditions and other long term neurological conditions.
The clinic will offer assessment, treatment, advice and management of patients who present with weakness, sensory problems, movement disorders, soft tissue tightness or reduced flexibility, balance problems, postural deviation and difficulty in functional mobility.
The common conditions treated in this outpatient physiotherapy clinic are:
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Parkinsonism
- Charcot Marie Tooth disease
- Ataxias
- Peripheral Neuropathy/ neuritis like Gullian Barre Syndrome, Brachial Neuritis
- Muscular conditions like Muscular Dystrophy or Myopathies
- Spinal cord conditions like Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Transverse Myelitis
- motor neurone conditions
- acquired brain injury
- adult Cerebral Palsy
- Vestibular Dysfunction.
A broad range of interventions and management may be offered based upon the appropriateness of the condition.
Referrals can be received from neurological consultants, ENT consultants, GP, specialist nurses and other allied health professionals.
Patients who suffer with long term conditions can also make a self-referral online.
