Description

Volunteers are vital to The Silver Line's ability to achieve our aim of reducing loneliness and improving the lives of older people.

We hope that many of our Helpline callers will volunteer to become Silver Line Friends, volunteers who enjoy offering friendship to older people.

Silver Line Telephone Friends offer a befriending service, calling an older person once a week to check they are ok and to have a chat. We match older people to like-minded volunteers.

All calls are free and managed using our 'virtual call centre' website. It is not a counselling service. For this role you will need access to the internet and a UK landline telephone. You will be expected to commit one hour per week for up to one year.

All friendship calls are recorded for safeguarding and training purposes

Silver Line Letter Friends offer a befriending service to older people, exchanging regular letters and correspondence. All postage is free and sent via our mail centre. It is not a counselling service and Silver Line Friends will never meet or know the address of the people they write to.

Volunteers typically work from home. Volunteers must undergo a vetting process and will be DBS (formerly CRB) checked.

Please see the website for further details for our telephone and letter friendship roles.

To apply to become a Silver Line Friend, please download our Silver Line Friend Application Form from our website and return it as described at the end of the form.

The Silver Line is a new charity and there are lots of volunteering opportunities for people with fund raising or local awareness raising. If you have a skill to offer in these areas, please contact us directly at volunteering@thesilverline.org.uk to find out more.
