There are many ways you can take action to help tackle the climate emergency.
We champion small changes. If everyone makes some small changes, together we can make a big difference and we can all be part of the solution.
At the start of 2023, we ran a #MedwaySmallChanges campaign on social media to share ideas on small changes that can be made. We hope these inspire you to get
Help the environment
When you eat
Choose a supermarket delivery over a drive to the shop to help reduce CO2 emissions.
By using a supermarket delivery truck to deliver multiple orders in a single trip, supermarkets are helping to reduce the number of people out on the roads, with some stores offering delivery from as little as £1.
When you wash
Take shorter showers and turn off taps.
Taking shorter showers will not only save energy and water but also save on your bills!
When you shop
Take re-useables with you everywhere so you’re always ready to reduce waste. You can:
- bring your own shopping bag
- carry a reusable water bottle or thermos
- upcycle glass containers
- reduce packaging by buying in bulk.
When you tidy
Start recycling one item at a time.
By simply beginning to recycle one item, such as cans, we can significantly reduce our environmental impact.
This simple step can make a significant difference in decreasing the amount of waste produced and can be an energy and resource saver.
In your home
Energy efficient bulbs can reduce your CO2 emissions and save you money!
This all comes with no compromise to the quality of light we have in our homes. Doing so can save us up to 40kg of carbon dioxide emissions every year!
When you gift
Reduce waste, donate a tree with the Medway Tree Fund.
As an alternative to sending a physical card or present, why not send your loved ones our digital e-card and donate the money you would have spent to the Medway Tree Fund?
Your contribution will help us to plant more trees in Medway which will help combat the effects of climate change, enhance the local area and provide support for wildlife.
When you drive
Improve air quality by switching off your engine when stationary.
Medway drivers are being encouraged to turn off their engines when stationary to reduce air pollution.
When you play
Switch game consoles to energy-saving mode.
By doing this you can dramatically reduce your device’s power consumption and save on your energy bills too!
When you charge
Reduce energy consumption by unplugging fully charged devices.
Not only will this save energy and reduce your electricity bills, but it will also extend the lifespan of your devices.
