The way we collect garden waste is changing.

From spring 2025, properties will still be able to present one wheeled bin or 2 brown bags of garden waste every week for free collection. However, any additional bins or bags of garden waste will no longer be collected.

For properties that regularly present more than one wheeled bin, a new opt in kerbside garden waste subscription service will be introduced.

This service will only be for streets assessed as suitable for the use of wheeled bins.

Residents in flats

Residents in flats will also be able to opt in to this service.

They can apply for an individual brown bin if they have a private garden that they maintain.

The landlord, management agent or resident group will be able to subscribe for one brown bin on behalf of their development.

Once the service is introduced

You'll need a permit to have a second brown bin at your property or flat development.

If you do not have a valid permit, the bin will not be collected and could be subject to removal.

You'll still be able to take all additional garden waste free of charge to any of our household waste and recycling sites.

Public survey

We held a public survey to help us shape the final design of the service.

The survey closed on Monday 21 October 2024.
