How the EPS works within Medway Council
The Educational Psychology Service works within the council on:
- developing policies
- developing schools
- specific project work
- special educational needs procedures
It also develops the policies and other activities of local authorities in a number of key areas such as autism, anti-bullying and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Other initiatives have included:
- supporting the introduction of the government reforms for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) across Medway
- running a project to support literacy development in year 6 pupils
- supporting children and young people undertaking managed moves
- supporting young people at college and moving into the workplace
The ESP also carries out research in:
- the long-term outcomes of managed transfers
- young children with SEN participating in decision-making
- the role of the 'key adult' in school for children who are looked after
- how children came improve their own writing lessons
- the skills needed for educational psychologists working with 16 to 25 year olds
