Medway Core Strategy Examination
The Medway Submission Draft Core Strategy (2006 to 2028) was withdrawn under the provisions of Section 22(1) of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 (as amended). We issued a Notice of Withdrawal in accordance with Regulation 27 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning)(England) Regulations 2012.
In January 2012, we approved a Submission Draft of the Core Strategy. This document was sent to the Planning Inspectorate for independent examination. Laura Graham, BSc, MA, MRTPI, was appointed to conduct the examination to determine if the draft Core Strategy was sound.
Initial hearing sessions were held between 12 and 20 June 2012. Additional information was submitted and the examination was suspended until 13 January 2013 to allow further work to be undertaken. Further hearings were held on 22 and 23 May 2013 and the examination was again suspended pending Natural England completing a notification process for a possible Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) at Chattenden Woods and Lodge Hill.
On 19 November 2013 Natural England confirmed the SSSI notification and on 25 November 2013 the Council withdrew the Core Strategy. Accordingly the Examination closed.
