The guidelines for alcohol are to not exceed 14 units per week and to spread your drinking over 3 or more days if you regularly drink 14 units a week.
There is no safe level of alcohol consumption, but you will significantly reduce the risks of it affecting your health by sticking to the recommended units (approximately 6 175ml glasses of wine or 6 pints of 4% beer).
Regularly exceeding this increases your chances of suffering from over 60 health problems, including:
- breast cancer
- hyper tension
- liver disease
- stroke.
