Investing in improving Medway’s play areas

Priority Play is a capital-funded project to upgrade play areas in Medway. The aim of the project is to update and renew a number of our play areas to improve the playing experience for Medway’s children, with new more engaging and exciting equipment.

In addition to the improvements made during 2021 to 2022, we secured £250,000 for 2022 to 2023 to update 6 other play areas at:

  • Ballens Road Play Area, Lordswood
  • Perry Street Play Area, Chatham
  • Princes Avenue Play Area, Walderslade
  • Laburnum Recreation Ground, Strood
  • replace an old unit at Kings Frith Play Area, Wigmore
  • improve the safety surfacing and replace old swing at Balmoral Gardens Play Area, Gillingham.

We consulted about the proposed designs in autumn 2022. We reviewed the feedback and amended some of the designs to take on board the main points raised.

All 6 play areas have now been improved and are open to the public.
