Quality and safeguarding assurance, workforce and resilience
The national workforce challenges in Adult Social Care have been made worse in recent years by the effects of:
- coronavirus (COVID-19)
- Brexit
- people exiting the labour market
- the cost of living crisis.
Issues that continue to challenge the whole sector include:
- recruitment and retention
- pay and reward
- support
- training
- career progression.
The sector has been significantly impacted by an unparalleled surge in costs, notably:
- the rapid rise in inflation
- energy expenses
- the repercussions of the pandemic
- the ongoing cost of living crisis
- national living wage increases.
This has increased the risk to services. Services require resilience planning at all levels to safeguard people who are being given care.
