Residents have had their stories, essays, poems and prose, inspired by six brilliant women with connections to Gillingham, published in a new book.
The Circle of Six Women project celebrates suffragist and peace campaigner, Dame Kathleen Courtney, African princess and friend to Queen Victoria, Sarah Forbes Bonetta, pioneering psychiatrist, Dr Lorna Wing, poet and novelist, Rosemary Tonks, inventor and engineer, Verena Holmes and artist Eileen ‘Tirzah’ Garwood.
Budding writers had the opportunity to take part in the project, and Medway Council has turned their entries into two anthologies; the first anthology, written by adults, can be read and borrowed by visiting any Medway library and the second, a children’s book, will be available this autumn.
