Residents are being encouraged to find out how they can quit smoking for good this No Smoking Day.
We are supporting No Smoking Day, which falls on Wednesday, 13 March.
To help raise awareness with residents, our Stop Smoking Team will be holding events to provide advice and support to residents, as well as helping them to self-refer to Medway’s Stop Smoking Service.
On Tuesday, 12 March, the team will be at Asda Gillingham Pier from 10am – 3pm, and on Thursday, 14 March they will be at Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre from 9am – 5pm.
On Wednesday, 13 March, the team will be at MidKent College to provide advice to students who study at the Gillingham campus from 9.30am – 1pm.
Since 2021, Medway’s Stop Smoking Service has supported around 3,500 residents with their attempts to stop smoking.
Our team of friendly trained advisers can provide weekly one-to-one support either over the phone or face-to-face, access to nicotine replacement therapy and a text to quit messaging service.
Residents who smoke and are aged 18 and above who sign up to the 8-week Medway Stop Smoking Programme are also offered a free re-usable vaping starter kit, with up to 10 liquids at the appropriate strength to treat their addiction.
Right support in place
Cllr Teresa Murray, Deputy Leader of Medway Council and Portfolio Holder for Public Health, said: “We know that quitting smoking is not an easy task, but it is never too late to quit and with the right support in place it can be done. The health benefits of quitting are almost immediate, and you will feel both happier and healthier once you kick the habit. Remember, smoking is an expensive habit so quitting for good will save money too. If you want to stop smoking, I would encourage you to get in touch with our dedicated team today.”
