Coding, performing arts, sports camps and arts & crafts are just some of the free activities on offer for children in Medway this summer with MedwayGo.
MedwayGo is a free, government funded, holiday activities and food programme for children aged five to 16 who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals. Along with lots of fun sessions, children attending will receive a nutritious meal, made to school food standards, ensuring that children have a healthy balanced meal as they would during the school day.
Hundreds of exciting activity sessions will be running in Medway from Monday, 29 July until Friday, 23 August.
If your child is not eligible for benefits-related free school meals, many of the sessions are available to book for a fee.
MedwayGo Fun Day
On Tuesday, 23 July, the MedwayGo team will be hosting a free Fun Day at Medway Park, with climbing walls, sports, cooking demonstrations and much more on offer.
The MedwayGo Fun Day will run from 11am to 3pm. This year’s Fun Day will open with a SEND hour from 11am – 12pm, and then from 12pm – 3pm all are welcome.
With a quiet zone for children who need it and a specific area for older children, which will include a silent disco, karaoke, a gaming area and NERF guns, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
As well as taking part in the fun activities, you will be able to meet some of the MedwayGo activity providers. The MedwayGo team will also be on hand to help you book the fun summer activities.
A healthy hot lunch will also be provided for children at the MedwayGo Fun Day.
Help and support Medway's residents
Cllr Teresa Murray, Deputy Leader of Medway Council and Portfolio Holder for Public Health, said: “We want to do everything we can to help and support Medway’s residents. It is fantastic we are able to provide these exciting activities, and meals, for free to those on benefit-related free school meals. There are a wide range of fun and inclusive activities being run, so there will be something for everyone on offer. Make sure you come along to the Fun Day if you want to find out more, where our friendly team will be happy to help enrol your child.”
Have fund and make new friends
Cllr Adam Price, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services at Medway Council, said: “Everyone knows the impact the cost-of-living crisis continues to have, especially for those on lower incomes, so for many this will be an essential lifeline over the summer holidays. The activity sessions will provide a great opportunity for Medway’s children and young people to stay active over the summer, have fun and make new friends. Even if your child isn’t eligible for free school meals, many of the activities can be booked for a fee – so I would encourage all parents and carers to check out what’s on offer this summer with MedwayGo.”
MedwayGo is funded by the government’s Holiday Activities and Food programme (HAF).
