Children across Medway have been sitting the Medway Test this week.
Cllr Tracy Coombs, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Education, said: “The last thing we would want to do is cause additional stress and pressure for young people taking the Medway Test.
“This is the first year that we have introduced the English exam as part of the Medway Test, alongside the Mathematics and Reasoning elements. We worked closely with the exam provider to agree the type of questions. This new test was designed to take 30 minutes.
“There isn’t a standardised length of time for the Medway Test exams as the test design and the length of the tests can differ each year. However, we appreciate that the guidance around the timing of the English exam could have been clearer. To ensure this is the case moving forward, when we write to parents and carers to confirm the arrangements for their child’s test, we will also include advice on how long each test will last.”
