Residents are being warned of recent reports of scam text messages relating to welfare support.

Local authorities around the country have received reports of messages received relating to the Household Support Fund, and others referring to “cost of living payments” and “living expenses subsidies”.

These messages ask people to follow links to submit applications and information, in an effort to scam people out of money.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) says it is taking action to close down fraudulent sites, but have asked residents to be wary of attempted scams.

We will never text or call you to ask for your bank details in relation to welfare support.
