As you travel around Medway you may have spotted a number of new signs that have been installed to help remind everyone how we can keep Medway clean and green.

In total, one hundred signs, all designed by Medway’s children and young people, have been installed in our greenspaces, high streets, parks and roads.

The new signs are part of Child-Friendly Medway’s Signs of Youth project which launched in January 2024. Young people across Medway were invited to submit their designs to promote the message of keeping Medway clean.

The key themes focus on planting more trees and flowers; reduce, reuse and recycle; taking care of wildlife; stop littering; cleaning up dog poo and preventing pollution.

The project was funded by Year 2 of Medway’s Shared Prosperity Fund, aimed at making a difference in Medway’s local communities.

Helps children and young people have their voices heard

Cllr Adam Price, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services, said: “This is a brilliant project which helps our children and young people have their voices heard. The topics they are passionate about are incredibly important, and it is great to see their messages out on display across Medway. I’d like to congratulate everyone who submitted a design, and I would encourage everyone to keep an eye out for these signs as they travel around Medway!”
