Christmas is just around the corner but it’s not too late to help make it a special festive season for Medway’s families in need.

Medway Council is launching an appeal for donated gifts for children and young people, to help those families unable to afford them this Christmas.

Cllr Adam Price, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children's Services, said: “We want this Christmas to be one to remember for all families around Medway, but with many facing financial difficulties it can end up being a tough time of year for many. Donating to our appeal will help ease the pressure for hundreds of families in need and give them a chance to celebrate the festive season with everyone else. Even small gifts can make a big difference so if you can help, please donate what you can.”

We’re asking for appropriate items, suitable for children and young people aged 0-25, such as books, games, vouchers, games, chocolates, toiletries or gift sets.

Items should not be wrapped and can be donated at your nearest library or the following drop-off points around Medway.

These include:

  • Gun Wharf (Reception) (open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm), Dock Road, Chatham, ME4 4TR
  • Cozenton Park Sports Centre (open Mon-Fri 6:30am-9pm, Sat/Sun 8am-4pm) Bloors Lane, Rainham, ME8 7EG.
  • Hoo Sports Centre, (open Mon-Fri 6:30am-9pm, Sat/Sun 8am-4pm), Main Road, Hoo, ME3 9EY
  • City Wall wine bar (open Sun-Weds 12pm-11pm Thurs-Sat 12pm-late), High Street, Rochester, ME1 1JT
  • Strood Children and Family Hub (open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm), Clifton Close, Strood, ME2 2HG
  • Chatham Children and Family Hub (open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm), Magpie Hall Road, Chatham, ME4 5AZ
  • Gillingham Children and Family Hub (open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm), Woodlands Road, Gillingham, ME7 2BX
  • Wayfield and Rainham Children and Family Hub (open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm), Wayfield Road, Chatham, ME5 0HH
