The country’s biggest walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling to school challenge starts later this month.
We are encouraging schools across Medway to sign up to Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel competition.
Almost 2,000 schools across the UK have already signed up to take part in the challenge which will be held from Monday, 24 March to Friday, 4 April.
New bikes, scooters, helmets and cycle racks are just a some of the prizes available for primary and secondary schools across Medway which take part.
The national challenge will see schools compete on each day of the challenge to see who can get the highest percentage of their pupils walking, using a wheelchair, scooting or cycling to school. Each school’s best five days will determine its final position, but journeys can be logged on all ten days.
The Big Walk and Wheel is free for all schools to register and take part in.
Build positive habits
Cllr Simon Curry, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Climate Change and Strategic Regeneration, said: “We are proud to be supporting this challenge once again in Medway. We always look to encourage people to choose active travel wherever possible, and competitions like this are a great way of engaging with families and helping to build these positive habits in our younger residents from an early age. Almost 20 schools in Medway have already signed up, and I would encourage all schools in Medway to get involved in the Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel competition this year. If your school is taking part, I want to wish you the very best of luck!”
